About SCDI Technologies

The first official usage of the name "société contre la dependence à l'informatique" (society against computer dependency) occurred on November 4, 1994 for the birthday party invitation of the member who was to become the current founder and president.

The number of friends reunited under the name SCDI increased slightly during the two following years. On September 3, 1996, realising that owning its internet domain was critical for its future, the members of the society against computer dependency registered the scdi.org domain name enabling a better cover for the time spent together. It is at this point that the name evolved into SCDI Technologies, the abbreviation meaning "Society for Creation and Development in Information Technologies".

This name was since then also used for the various contacts the members had with commercial organisations to receive information… as you certainly know, it is amazing the number of companies who won't take a student serious. But as a member of the SCDI Technologies, theses same students were people worth talking to.

June 22, 2000 is the day members of the society against computer dependency registered the domain name scdi.net. The introduction of the .Net strategy of the SCDI Technology was therefore made world wide a few hours before the one of the main computer software companies because of time zone changes.

Since its foundation, the society against computer dependency had some of its members leave the Swiss Federal Institute for Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) where most of them initially met. Because of this, the SCDI Technologies has become a multinational organisation, with members in the USA, in England and in Switzerland. Using the Internet and the latest technologies, we are all in close regular contact and try to meet each other as often as possible.
