We Do Get More Spam
We all feel that we receive more spam today than we used to. But how much
more? To answer this question I created a few charts based on the spams I
have received since 2001. The numbers and charts on this page are based on
88385 spams I did receive. They are updated once a
day. Last update: Tue Jun 7 8:03:07 PDT 2005.

The chart speaks for itself: we do get more spam (doh!). Note that
the increase here cannot be attributed to my email address being suddenly
visible on public Web sites: my address hasn't changed and it has been out
there on several sites since 1995.

On average we receive less spam on Sunday and that spammers get lazier
towards the end of the business week.

This chart shows the success rate of our server-side spam filter (SpamAssassin) over time. I only
have viable statistics starting in August 2002. The success rate has
been pretty stable around 80% for some time and it looks like it got
down to 60% during the last months. Are spammers getting more astute?
